Chapter 6
VI. How Long Does Salvation Last?
1. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have ______________________ life."
Note: God promises that whosoever believes in Jesus will have everlasting life - life that never has an end.
2. According to John 3:36, the Bible says, "He that believeth on the Son hath ______________________ life."
3. John 10:27-29 says, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them ______________ life; and they shall __________ perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Fathers hand."
Note: What does God give us? Temporary life? No - eternal life. Does God say that for a while, as long as we meet His expectations, we will not perish? No - it says we shall never perish! Now either salvation is sure and secure, or else God is a liar. And we know that God is not a liar. The Bible says in Titus 1:2, "In hope of eternal life, which God, that ____________ lie, promised before the world began."
4. Hebrews 13:5 gives us a reason why we should be content with what we have, because God promises, "I will __________ leave thee, nor forsake thee."
Note: Some people say, "Oh, I know that no one can take me out of the Saviors hand, or out of the Fathers hand, but if I sin, God will cast me out." That is impossible according to John 6:37-40. "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise ________ out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Fathers will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose ______________, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day." Jesus clearly says that He will never lose one person who comes to Him for salvation.
Note: If a person is confronted with the truth of all these Scriptures, and still maintains that you can lose your salvation, then he/she is not truly saved, but is trusting in a false works salvation - which is not salvation at all.
Your Situation If You Think You Can Lose Your Salvation
Jesus
+ Your Faithfulness
= Eternal Condemnation
Do you see what you are doing? The bottom line in your salvation equation is that your salvation depends upon your own good works. You are not fully trusting in Jesus to save you, but in a 50/50 venture - that you received Christ, and that you can somehow be good enough to keep it. We have already seen that your good works could not save you. Ephesians 2:8,9 said, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of __________, lest any man should boast." According to your equation, you could boast when you got to heaven, because you were good enough not to lose your salvation - just exactly what the verse says is impossible. If you could not save yourself by your own good works, what makes you think that you can keep yourself saved by your own good works? The people in Galatia were teaching the same error, that you had to trust Christ - plus keep the law to be saved. Listen to what the Bible said to them: "I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in ________." (Galatians 2:21) That is, if your works has anything to do with you getting to heaven, then Jesus died for nothing. His death on the cross would have all been in vain. Listen in further, as the Galatian people are rebuked for their false doctrine, in Galatians 3:1-3: "O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the __________?" He goes on to say in Galatians 4:20, "I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in __________ of you." He was doubting whether these people were truly saved, because of their teaching of good works plus Jesus to keep saved. He knew if that was what they believed, they were not even really saved at all.Galatians 5:4 says, "Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are ____________ from grace." BEWARE! Those groups that teach you can lose your salvation always teach that you can get it back - but that is not so. Hebrews 6:4-6 teaches "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto ____________________; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame." If you say that you can lose your salvation, then you are putting Christ to shame - you are saying that His sacrifice was not enough. If you could lose your salvation, it would be impossible to ever get it back How about you? Are you truly born again? Are you truly trusting Jesus Christ alone for your salvation? If you believe that you can lose your salvation, then you are trusting in your own good works to get you to heaven, and you will not make it.
True Salvation
Jesus Death On The Cross
+ My Faith In Him Alone
= Eternal Life
You better make sure you have it right. Your eternal destiny depends upon your decision.
