I accepted Jesus
Christ into my heart when I was six years old. It was during the summer, and I was
attending a Vacation Bible School at the church where my family attended. At the end
of one of the services, the speaker asked if anyone wanted in invite Jesus into their
hearts. We all had our heads bowed and eyes closed, and I raised my hand and a lady
came over and led me to a room. She explained how Jesus died on the cross for me so
that I would not have to go to hell, if I only accepted Him into my heart. I
surrendered my life to God that day.
It has been ten years
now, since I have accepted Jesus Christ. I do not ever remember hearing anything
about baptism at that church. Then in 1994, we started going to Liberty Baptist
Church. That is when I started hearing about baptism. After every service
there is an invitation, and I would always think I should go up, but I would not because I
thought my friends would not like me since they did not know that I was not baptized.
But I also knew that I was disobeying God. Also, every time our pastor would
talk about baptism I would feel uncomfortable, because it says in Acts 8:36, "...See
here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?" So on October 13, 1999, I
was baptized. I was so happy that I was no longer running from God!
Ever since I have been
saved, I have had Someone to cast my burden upon, and have found rest in Him. In
Matthew 11:28-30 it says, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and
I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and
lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my
burden is light." And in I Peter 5:7 it says, Casting all your care upon him;
for he careth for you."
