Occupation: Housewife - Midwife
I was born into a Christian home, had heard the
truth, and was taught the love of God from the very beginning of my life. But it was
not until I was six years old, that my heart responded to that genuine need of making
Christ my personal Lord and Savior.
Every week, on Monday's at 4:00 P.M., I
attended a neighborhood J.O.Y. Club. We would sing songs; hear Bible Stories; do a
craft, etc. One day, the teacher was giving a flannel graph story about Saul (Acts
chapter 9), on how bad he had been, and all of the wicked things that he had done..., but
how Jesus had confronted him, and how Saul responded to the voice of the Lord.
That story had such an impact on my little
heart, that I knew that I, too, needed to respond to God's voice (John 10:27-29).
When J.O.Y. was all over, all the children left, but I remained in my seat crying!
The teacher soon noticed me (thinking that someone had hurt me or something). She
came to inquire what was wrong. With tears in my eyes, I said, "I don't have
Jesus in my heart!" She asked me if I wanted to be saved, and I said,
"Yes, I do." We both went to the altar of the church, and I got down on my
knees, and asked the Lord into my heart, confessing all my sins and seeking His
forgiveness and acceptance. What a thrilling moment for me!
I remember being late getting home, and I ran
all the way (1 block). My mother met me at the door, ready to scold me. I was
out of breath, but with such joy and excitement I blurted out, "Mommy - do you know
what I just did?" She said, "No, what did you do?" I responded,
"I just asked Jesus into my heart!" I'll never forget my mother's
response. She reached down, pulling me to herself, and started crying.
I could never quite understand why she had
cried when I had told her of something happy, until years later, when I, too, as a mother,
had the privilege of "crying" tears of joy upon hearing and seeing the salvation
of my own children who have responded to the truth.
III John 1:4, "I have no greater joy than
to hear that my children walk in the truth." John 8:32, "And ye shall know
the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
